By his early twenties, Teddy had won the New York State Championship. The stage motivated him, but coaching motivated him even more, and the science beneath the work is what held him. He devoted himself to the work of building muscle, the balance of diet, exercise, rest, and the precise sequencing of a program applied over time. He mastered the art of sculpting people into more than they thought they could be, whether athletes, competitors, or working men who walked into his gym and left transformed. Walt Debbs is the clearest example of what that system produces.

Teddy did not recruit Walt Debbs out of a pipeline. Walt came to him as a former NFL prospect with no bodybuilding background, and from that starting point Teddy coached him to the top of the sport.
The NPC Nationals is one of the hardest shows in the country to win, and Teddy guided Walt to the overall title. By his own measure, it stands as the signature result of his coaching career.
